In its statutory role as advocate for services to children in Massachusetts, the Office for Children regulates provision of day care and substitute care (MGLA c 28A, ss 4(c), 10-13). The office has authority to issue and renew licenses, to investigate complaints filed against providers, and to furnish consultation to assist applicants in meeting its requirements for licensure. Series is created by the office's criminal offender record information unit and maintained by its licensing unit to administer and document such screening.
